96 f150 auto [e4od broken 5 times] 24#injectors to4 turbo intercooled tuned.
to date best 278 hp 410 torque at 11.5# boost.
street tune reg gas 186hp & on 94oct 240 hp
stock motor made all parts my self.
How did the PCM react to the turbo? Did it throw a ton of error codes at you prior to getting the proper chip in place? How about the E4OD? I'd always assumed that the PCM used manifold vacuum signals as part of the control strategy just like on older linkage operated trannies. I've half considered putting a turbo on my 96 300, but didn't know how much of a problem I'd encounter.
How many miles since the upgrade, and how has reliability been? What lower end did you use, stock 96, or ?? Any head work? I know these things have pretty stout blocks, so I am wondering what I can expect from mine. Running the numbers on DD2K, seems I am looking at 377hp, from ~8psi of boost.
i have obd 2 mass air flow[maf],trans is controled by the ecm
shifting up/or down is controled by load the ecm looks at
the maf & tps to calculate load.
the ecm has been flashed, no add on chip and passes
emissions. installed a blgger maf
block is stock, about 1000 miles broke overdrive clutch once
[16#boost at shift ] had to rework wastgate to respond faster,
2nd gear oneway 2 times and smoked direct clutch.
last change made a new converter old stall 1800 rpm
now 2200 rpm it came ALIVE!
5#boost on reg gas
8.5#boost on 94 with a hint of knock
11.5#boost on 105 unleaded
more boost killed power and made a lot of heat.
total timing is 24
wow.....did you check out my "where to find used turbo's" post in the performance section? This is exactly what I was wanting to do with my '95! Sounds awesome, got any pics?
I've been considering switching my 300 for a 351c for
performance reasons. I'm not expecting to beat any stangs or camaros BUT I am looking to tear up some four-banging, rice burning, Civics that plague our Jacksonville street races. If i could get a turbo instead, that would be great....less money is good for a 17 year-old cashier at Winn-Dixie. Plus, I still want to be able to tow my boat and camper, my parent's that is. Will the turbo still allow for that? As well, how much work and time should I expect to spend doing this turbo mod? ....and $$$$$$$$ , too?
i have pics nowere to post them.
ok you can do it with a speed-density obd1,[not easy]
mass air flow {maf} not cheap, but easy.
no need for a fmu, the maf measures the air to the engine
the ecm adds fuel. if you do not push more air than meter
all is good. otherwise you need a bigger maf $$$$.
how did i do it, 2weeks on a lift to mount turbo,
fab a down pipe, pipes to turbo, oil lines, new oil pan
with a drain fitting for turbo, and move the oil filter
back 4 feet. 2 weeks to fab lines from turbo to intercooler
and a manifold to hook to the thottle body,
easy maybe 120 hrs. $1200/$2000
if you can make most parts and do most work yourself.

[B]It seems that i would spend just as much $$$ on making my I6 turbo as i would if i swapped it for a 351c. I think i would rather have a V8 and be able to say V8.
[B/]<continued>................................I can get a deal on a 351c from a friend of mine in Tennessee. Right now im EFI so what all do i have to change out?
Trans?
Rear End?...c6 maybe?
guages?
shifter?
My goal is to make enough HP and a lot of low end torque to be able to beat some Civivs, other ricers, and some 5.0's. Is this possible? If not, what is possible? I know that i can easily upgrade to a 5.0, but id rather have a 351c?
Anybody got any ideas?
What year is your truck, what tranny, it all makes a difference. In general, if you want to race, get something lighter and with better aerodynamics than a truck. If you just want a quicker truck, that's a different question.
