If you don't want to race your truck don't race your truck. No need to rag us because we want our trucks to perform well. As far as a truck never being a racer, have you ever ridden in a Lightning? Mine went 13.48@101.5 without a single modification, and it also runs right with the f-bodies and Mustangs on a road coarse. Plans are in the works to get comparable performance from my daily driver as well. Some of us don't have the cash for a racecar and a truck, so we make do with what we've got.
did i say race in any posting?
i think not !
have you read my specs,
410 torque @ 2200/2400 rpm
that is 460/power stroke power
from a 6 or my 6 can tow 11000 + lbs.
my boost starts at 2000 rpm
max boost around 3600 rpm
revlimiter 4200 rpm
all way to low for racing,
PERFECT FOR TOWING
to me a race truck [600 ci, efi & nitrous]
the truck is a driver/tow/cruser with
good tunes
on low boost i make more power thad a 351
why did i turbo a truck to learn about them
maybe twin turbos on my street/race car
1974 capri tube chassis efi 460.
this truck made 278 rear wheel hp or
333 flywheel hp.
410 rear wheel torque or 490 flywheel torque
i am 45 years old
i tune on a dyno NOT on
the street or track
I make most of my own parts
I DO MY OWN WORK !
i help honda guys {344 wheel hp}
and i build things .
u gotta share the parts list and prices man...and if ur feeling generous how bout a little diagram? might as well spread the wealth with everyone, ya know...
I want one, what do you think it would cost me to have someone do it as i am in no way that mechanically inclined? I figured to get the motor rebuilt and turboed would still be cheaper than buying new right?
Big Block, did you O-ring the heads?, Lower the compression? I have never ran a turbo but all the stuff I read (years ago) recomended doing these things. I think lowering the compression was just so you could run more boost. If I remember right they said you couldn't safely run more than about 7-8 lbs. with stock compression, but I don't remember the base line compression.
I was refered to your sight in reguard to the question about this set-up and I envy your ingenuity. I would be interested in doing it to a vintage carburated truck so most of what you did doesn't really apply to what I had in mind, but who knows, an EFI motor in a 60s truck with a turbo HMMMM. I will continue to see if I can find something that is a bit more of a bolt on. Thank you for sharing.
