Hi, new around here but reading and learning tons. I am very interested in purchasing a 03 f250SD with the 6.0psd in it and I'm nervous about the reputation it seems to have. The truck has a BDS 6" lift and 36" tires, a plow, and some model of Edge programmer. The seller says he just replaced all the injectors and had the turbo professionally rebuilt, but I'm still nervous. I was hoping someone here could get me the oasis info on VIN 1FTNX21PO3EB57401.
Welcome to FTE.
Unfortunately, FTE cannot do OASIS reports anymore. I don't know why, but I read it in the sticky post on the first page of the Superduty forum.
As for the truck you're talking about, don't buy it. You have all the indication you need.....you're nervous about it! There are better deals out there.
Good luck!
I'd walk away, the damage has been done already. Unless it's for sure been studded, and had a few other things done (oil cooler, EGR, water pump) it's probably going to have some issues soon.
A lift, 36" tires AND a plow, no thanks add to that the tuner and the problems that were "fixed" and it is going to be trouble plus it is an '03, the truck has nothing going for it.
So even if the oasis report (I'll get it from the dealer tomorrow) is clean I should still avoid it? I'd be buying it at about 8k under blue book if you include the cost of the plow. The truck only has 84k on it, has a fresh turbo and injectors. The seller is going to bring the truck up to temp and tell me the eot/ect so i can see if it falls within spec. If I buy the truck it's going straight to the dealer to have all the fluids and filters changed including a trans flush. While it's at the dealer I'm going to have them flash the ecu with the latest Ford tune. I plan to use the edge only as a monitoring system. Once I get it back from the dealer I'll install a coolant filter and delete the EGR. I am very proficient with a wrench and can handle working on it myself, am I missing a big reason not to buy this truck?
Except that its a short bed. Ewwww!! j/k It looks good. Just make sure that you are comfortable with the truck before you buy. If you are nervous in the least, don't buy. If everything checks out, you will have a good truck.
I'm not nervous about this truck in particular, I'm nervous about the 6.0psd. I drove the truck in almost all conditions and speeds and it's rock solid. The seller said the lift was put on last year, and the whole front end including brakes, and upper and lower ball joints are new. Its a kid who got in over his head with payments so he has to sell it. I really like the truck and can get it for a steal. If we get a heavy winter I could pay most of the truck off plowing. So are their any reasons not to buy this truck aside from the lift and plow?
If the Oasis checks out you should be fine. If there was a problem with this particular 6.0, you would have seen it before 84K. Not a definite science, but you have to take some in faith.
that was my thinking. I know I can handle the repairs if something breaks, I just don't want to be working on it more than driving it. I already have 2 project cars, this would be my daily/work truck. Thanks for the input!
Oasis reports are free of charge from any Ford dealer service department.
Not true. Dealers are no more allowed to provide a OASIS report then the folks that were doing it here at FTE. Ford considers OASIS reports proprietary information that is only for Ford and its dealership employees. So, if a dealer does provide a report, it should be considered a favor/courteous act...
Something to consider here. I was looking at an 03 once and got an OASIS report on it. I learned that there are certain fixes you WANTED it to have had, as these were the recurring "built-in" problems. I'm sure you can learn more down in the 6.0 forum.
Best of luck to you. Please keep us informed as to how it turns out.

Then I got lucky because I'm heading out now to pick up the full report including the extended warranty from the dealer.
ok, here is the report. I'm a noob to Fords so this is new to me, but the only thing that seems odd is the EGR entry on page 2. Please let me know what you all think.
