Hi, I had a thread in the SD forum but this may be a better place for it. I'm looking at an 03 f250 with the 6.0psd and was hoping to get some opinions on the Oasis report I got on it.
here is the truck.
the seller said he just replaced all 8 injectors and both filters, new upper/lower ball joints, brakes, and had the turbo rebuilt. I am a competent mechanic and know I can handle working on the truck, I just want to know if there are any red flags in the Oasis I am missing. The EGR entry on page 2 may be a problem? I plan to take it to the dealer and have all fluids and filters changed, and I'll do an EGR delete after that. Am I missing some reason not to buy this truck? I would get a heck of a deal on it.
I am a little concerned that 8 injectors were replaced. What is the mileage of the truck. EGR valves are common enough issue and no big deal. EGR delete would be good. Will you be towing with this truck?
The OASIS report is a tiny little walk in the park! Nothing too bad or out of the ordinary. The 8 injectors would have me wondering though! Why??? Well Why is the question, why replace all 8 injectors, was the guy into the motor even farther and threw 8 injectors at it while doing some other major repair? This truck is outside of warranty so the OASIS only helps with dealer performed work! Being an 03 it's a couple 2 or 3 years out of warranty. My concern with any older 6.0 would be that someone is dumping the truck because they know something expensive is going out and they don't want to repair it! Many times the 6.0 trucks run great and don't puke till you tow with them! So driving it a couple of miles on a test drive doesn't really demonstrate if there may be any issues! An EOT/ECT monitoring device would be an excellent tool to see the state of the oil cooler! I just dropped $6752 into my 6.0 and it hurt so do your homework and don't just take some guys word on anything! I easily could have sold mine as is and stuck some poor guy with a huge repair bill but that just isn't right! Not trying to scare you away just keep your eyes open and know what you are getting into and ask a ton of questions!!
Nice truck by the way. Coolant filter is highly recommended if you do buy it as well as gauges. No mention why the injectors were replaced. Weak HPOP, bad FICM, low fuel pressure or just bad fuel? It be nice to know why injectors were replaced.
Most people on this forum would recommend putting away enough money to deal with a head gasket issue down the road, although most of those issues stem from failed oil cooler/egr coolers.
yeah, the plow is worth just over 2k. I forgot the truck is throwing 2 codes, p0263 and p0603. From my research the p0263 is #1 cyl contribution/balance, not sure what that means though. The p0603 INTERNAL CTRL MOD KAM ERROR, I have no idea about this one.
I may be able to get it for 14k which seems reasonable to me. I'm just worried about the code it's throwing. It's not triggering any dash lights like the CEL, and the truck ran great on the test drive...
Got this from Mitchell diag. " The PCM harness connectors must be properly seated and the connector latch properly attached to eliminate possible driveability concerns or a no start.
P0603 Power train control Module keep Alive Memory (ROM) error.
The PCM stores the vehicle operating conditions in random access memory (RAM) and utilizes this info to compensate for component variability. The keep-alive power (KAPWR) circuit supplies battery voltage (B+) to the PCM to maintain the memory contents when the ignition switch is off.
Possible causes, battery or PCM previously disconnected, battery cable loose or poor connection, battery discharged, open or short to ground in the KAPWR circuit, PCM reprogramming or reflash, PCM.
Key on, engine off. Clear the DTCs, Cycle the ignition switch off and on. Is DTC still present.
