Have replaced the glow plugs, new valve cover gaskets and wiring. Run great for months. Started missing yesterday, engine light came on. Cannot run a engine off scan, keeps aborting. Engine run scan , no codes. Run an injector buzz test. I get code 1275 on number 5. Where do I need to start?? Would this be a bad injector? Or what else could it be??
I'm no expert on this matter, but I found this while researching your problem. Maybe it will help you out.
"It turns out the single 1275 code (open in #5 circuit) turned out NOT to be wiring,UVC harness,or IDM.
The screw for the poppet valve under the #5 solenoid had come lose. Why the IDM sees this as an open circuit is beyond me, because I OHMed myself to death and could never find an "open" circuit. Remember if wiring is good, the PCED manual condemns the IDM.
Anyway, tightened the screw, (ground down an E6 star socket which worked but if there is such an animal, I think the correct size would be E5)put everything back together and no miss and no SES light any more.
Would not have figured this out if Madvan hadn't suggested swapping the solenoids between injectors. Pulled solenoids off 5 and 3 and immediately saw that 5 was loose compared to 3."
Thanks, will pull the injector this afternoon when I get off from work and take a look at it. Can a bad injector keep the engine off scan from working (solus)?
Try checking the wiring from the idm to the valve cover. I have a link that could probably help but don't think you have pm until 25 post. Post your email if you want me to send it to you. Maybe someone else can post it up but my link is not working but have it saved.
Thank you, very informative email. Just cleaned the idm connection. Drove it 15 miles and it is doing ok. Will be driving it 100 miles tomorrow to do a better test. 60 degrees this morning and it wouldn't start. Started right up this afternoon, 90 degrees. The glow plug selonoid must be out again. Have went thru 3 NAPA ones in two years.
Code was gone , but truck was still missing from 40 mph and up. Took it to the dealer and had it scanned. Said the number 8 injector was bad and a tail light bulb out. Ordered a new injector should be here tomorrow.
