Love the step and the handle. Especially for a big guy like me (290#) it makes getting in the tall bed easier. It is a bit more interesting now that I have a Leer cap on.
Same here - hauling my fat *** into the bed is a cinch now. Funny thing is, when I'm at the lumber yard picking up stuff, all the chevy and dodge guys are saying "what a great idea!"
So Chevy can mock all they want but you'd be a fool not to believe they've at least got a prototype on the shelf and as soon as the Chevy diehards start asking for it they will come out of the closet with it!
Overall I have liked the step. Except for the first time I used it I forgot it was there and jumped out like normal, hitting my shins on the open step.
I have heard that you can remove the handle and bolt on the non-step inside tailgate panel. I'm considering this on my list of things to do, but the kids and wife like the handle.
I just remembered something cool. About a month ago one of my niece's jumped up, got the handle out and starting pretending she was Hannah Montana, pretending the yellow top was a microphone. It was really funny.

Hanah Montana... hilarious. My kid did the same thing! We went to a drive-in movie and it was like an air concert before the sun went down. I guess the little ones just can't resist the stage and the perfect "microphone" height?
I think I will probably pass on the man step... I think it would only get in the way and after a few years the paint will be fading and just another source for a rattle.
I do not see how it gets in the way. The exposed part of the step is the same material as the bed rail covers . It may rattle though. My truck is too tall for me to jump up into. I carried a milk crate in the 04 truck to get up in the box. I like the step.
I would think the tailgate would not get sprayed in the Linex process due to the fact the inside of the tailgate has bed liner material on it when you get the step. At least that is how my Lariat came.

the handle stores down into a dip in the plastic shell on the tailgate face.
only time I can think it would be in the way is if u had the bed jammed full right up the edge and needed to close the tailgate.
I have slid sheets of plywood over the face without any trouble. the plastic shield lifts the material up over the handle..

You're right, I have done this with 4x8 plywood and the gate will not close. Just a little agravating but I don't do it all the time so i'm over it.
I love the step. Like others my knees are't what they use to be. Not too worried about the raised tailgate cover. I wish the backup camera provide other angles. My wife has a Range Rover and it has five cameras and you can view two at a trime or all five. Very cool
