Thumps when making U EE's something different????

Thumps when making U EE's something different????
So I've been experiencing some thumping when making tight turns and it feels like 4wd is not disengaged. Last night for 2 hours with stethoscope(no not a doctor but great tool to have) figured out with front end jacked so both wheels off ground and turned to almost full I'd feel a thumping and no steering wheel movement when jerked wheels back and forth till I heard the thump. I've adjusted steering box some time ago and it is tolerable going down the road. I always thought that most of wear occurs on center and if you tighten steering box adjustment that when off center it would be tighter?????? The further I go off center the worse the condition is... No movement in anything else hence the 2 hours mentioned above in disbelief! Anyone else ever tried this or has same problem??
