I'm adding a camera to the back of my travel trailer. I could go wireless but reception would be messy, and I have to add a monitor.
Would you know if there is a second camera input on our monitor? Or alternatively, tie in to existing backup camera wiring and have a switch that allows me to select the trailer camera when I have it plugged in.
Someone suggested to google ford lockpick, when I did I remember reading the device let's you watch DVD, put info into the gps, and leave the reverse cam on while going toward or on park also. They slap said that you can add multiple cams for the sides and front. So I don't think it would be a problem to do the trailer, lust a longer cord and plug. Good luck
I looked at the lock pick site. I do not have the navigation system. My back up camera is in my rear view mirror. I would like to install a camera in the rear window to help in hooking up the fifth wheel. I did not see any info there for that application. Anyone here seen this done?
I have not, but it doesn't seem like rocket science..
trace the harness from the camera & or the mirror to under the dash.
there will be 2 important leads..
power and camera signal..
run camera and signal from window view to the same spot.. you will need a toggle switch and a 5 pin relay.. the camera signal should go thru 30/87a by default (tailgate), and 30/87 switched (window view)
the other two relay pins, power and ground.. and u would control the power to the relay by the manual switch.. off and it goes default, on and it goes switched..
finding a place to cut into the wires is the fun part.. they have video quality relays as well..
I am thinking of doing the same on the back of my car hauler..
I have an upfitter switch to control the camera as well as during backup.
really would like the connecting of the trailer to switch to the other camera..automagically..
I have waterproof relays on my show truck for lights, fan, fuel pump, air pump..
just have to figure out the right way to 'detect' the grounding of the trailer.. (pumper pull)
(need an 8th pin!)

This is the same setup I had on my 2005 & 2009.
The first camera is installed on the back wall of the camper, just under "Copper Canyon" and the monitor is attached to the bottom of the A-pillar handle. I had to make a new support arm for the monitor because the angle of the handle had changed so much on the 2011 vs 2009. It's great for backing the camper by myself and it makes it a breeze to pass a cars and know I am far enough in front of them to go back into the right lane. The video can be reversed to give you mirror image. Without the camera I could not see the ATV trailer at all.
The cables are routed along the frame rail on the truck. The cable for the 5th wheel camera is attached to the campers pig tail.
I ordered a second camera and mounted it just below the tailgate. It clears tailgate when it's down, so you can use the camera with the tailgate up or down. The CAB CAM has inputs for 3 cameras, so I'm thinking I might put a 3rd camera in the bed of the truck, just behind the cab on top of the bed rail. That would make hitching the 5er a little easier since I now have 3 headrests blocking my view.
The complete system and additional camera should be $400 or less. CabCAM Video System (Includes 7" Monitor and 1 Camera)
The main harness that comes with the CAB CAM system has one connector for the monitor and three more for each camera input. Each camera cable has 4 wires for power, ground an 2 signal. The main harness power wire is hooked to upfitter switch 4.
Main Harness
Most of it is hidden under the dash.
With the system you also get a 20' and 65' camera cables. The 20' cable runs from under the dash through the firewall and down the frame rail to the back of the truck bed. The 65' runs from the campers pigtail to the back of the camper. All I needed for the rear bumper cam was another 20' cable and the camera. It's pretty simple to add more cameras.
20' cable
Tomahawk, do you have any pics of the additional support you added to camper back bumper? I've thrown around this idea for a few years. I believe the TX limit is 65' but I've been limited by my truck. 6.7L is on the way and might start thinking about this idea again. Thanks!

The cables from the firewall to the bumper cam and to the connection for the camper are both 25'. The cable from the front of the camper is 65', so the total length for the campers rear camera is 90'. I'll take more pics.
