Hi guys...i've read alot and i'm not seeing the answer to my question. first off i recently purchased a 73 all original f100 with 79,000 original miles but it's been poorly taken care of...my girlfriend and i are gonna make it a nice project with a little custom flare. It's a 302 with a 3 on the tree...
My question is will any headers miss the linkages for the trans and clutch? would mustang shorties work cause i have a set i can get for cheap. what about full length ones like the cheaper flow techs from jegs or summit? i'm looking for any set that will fit but i'm really more looking for cheap that will fit...What is ya'll input?
I have a '73 F100 4x2 with a 390 FE and C6, so this is not apples to apples; however, I put standard Hedmans on mine last year and had no fitment troubles. Everything clears adequately. I suspect the major manufacturers have this down to a science when they design headers and unless there is a * stating something on the order of, "automatic only" or "will not fit models with [insert item here]" you should experience no difficulty other than the normal header installation quirks. That's unavoidable, I'm afraid...
Ive got a 73 with a 360 and 4 on the floor (NP435). I bought the Flowtechs from Summit and installed them with no issues whatsoever, fitment was good, cleared everything really well.
my concern was the driver side header clearing the clutch linkage and the shift linkage with it all being mechanical and 3 on the tree i don't want to buy them to end up not fitting. i wonder if the mustang shorties i can get will be any different.
My roommates 77 is a three on the tree and his cleared as well, they're suprisingly similar, using the Mustang ones might bring clearance issues but all you can do to know for sure is try it out, good luck
