I tried installing my headers I got from Jeg's, but the paasenger side hit on the frame rail and the starter and wont go down....it's a 1972 F100 with a 400...I'm trying to put a set of dynomax cheap headers for a 1978 F100 on it...any ideas or suggestions to remedy this problem?? do I need to jack the motor up to install them?? tia for any help, Charles
The later frame is much wider. You need block hugger headers for that, IIRC shorty block huggers for a 70 Mustang with a 351c fit, but I'm not positive.
Im presuming that the 400 motor was put in using the motor mounts from a 77-79 if this is true they should work even though I know that the 400 is completly different motor than the 360 to put the header on the starter side of my 70 model you had to put the header & starter in place together a royal pain in the butt but the headers fit it would cook a starter in about 4 months but they fit.The driver side you could throw it in but as you know the motor is offset to the passenger side you probably arent holding your tounge out the right side.

I havent tried putting the header on the driver's side yet...I'm afraid it's going to hit the mc on that side...it's just barely hitting the frame, but it's almost half a tube on the starter
Ah yes, the cuts and scapes are still healing. Just put headmans on my 68 F250 4X4 w/390 FE. Had to remove starter, lift the truck and the motor. Had to reinstall starter w/ headers still loose.
Good Luck

P.S. Oh yeah, the drivers side; had to remove the spring connecton for the clutch return spring, the Z bar pivot mount on the frame and the engine block. Of course the truck and motor were still jacked up!

oh I guess the 4wd will get them....I'm about to replace everything on it....dont have the title for it, butI bought a 73 f100 w/ a 360 today for 150.00...I'm changing cab, bed fenders and everything to my 4wd frame..then taking the 400 out of the 72 and putting it in the 4wd b/c thats the original motor for it and putting the 360 out of the 73 in the 72 and thats the original motor for it!!
