Okay i have given up on the 347 stroker. I can buy an engine from a junkyard in ohio but I need to know if the a 351w out of a 1996 E150 Van will work with my mass air equipped computer. The engine has 114,000 miles and for everything they want 300 dollars. The only reason i am not jumping on it is that i am pretty sure that the van is obd2 were my truck is a obd1 with mass air flow. I want to swap in a 351w but i want a simple swap. while i got the engine out i plan on rebuilding the engine and the transmisson in my truck which is the 4r70w tranny. I am slowly gathering the parts but before i lay down the money for the engine i want to make sure it wont add more work on me.
There is no major difference between an OBD-1 and OBD-2 engine and the differences that do exist present no issue for your swap, the OBD-2 motor has a crank sensor that doesn't exist on the OBD-1 system so you can simply ignore it, same goes for the DPFE EGR sensor remove and discard it and use the old style EGR tube without the DPFE lines, and the 5.8 doesn't use a knock sensor so simply leave the connector hanging. Otherwise it's a direct plug-in on your engine harness, just be sure to use a 28oz/4R70w flexplate between the engine and trans and not anything else, do not use the 5.0 version or whatever comes with the donor motor.
i am hoping to get at least 350hp 380tq? is that unreleastic?
With the stock heads, cam, and intake.. yes. You'll get the TQ numbers no problem but the stock heads limit output to about 275hp even if the motor has enough cam and intake to get into the 350hp range.. which it doesn't.

And you need a 164 tooth 28 oz flexplate.
will a head upgrade change that and if so which head would be the best for my truck.
