EGR Valve replace

I'm replacing my EGR valve due to it sticking every once in a while, and cleaning it only fixes it for a short while.

What would happen if I leave it unplugged. It's a 2004 so I don't think it throws a code, but what internally will happen, and would it be a poor man's EGR Delete?

OR

What would happen if I put the new one in place, leave the old one plugged in, but sitting in the valley area?

I will eventually do a full EGR delete and studs, but that's more money and down time than I can spare right now.

Go to the top of this forum and read the "READ THIS FIRST" threads! Or use the "SEARCH" function and search for EGR COOLER and enjoy a few days worth of reading about EGR valves.

btw - I was being sarcastic, I'm actually asking this on a couple of forums, and nobody ever gives the same information for feedback, as is the case here, with that said, the sticky, which I did not look at to start with, is for the most part rather informative to say the least,

Carry on......

This post, from the TECH FOLDER should answer your question:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...ml#post1611852

"I unplugged mine a while back, probably 3000 miles. In terms of top end power, it will make no noticeable difference, but your turbo WILL spool marginally quicker. The EGR extracts exhaust air pre-turbo in these motors; by this token, any air the EGR uses is subtracted from the quantity that could be powering the turbo, but instead is rerouted through the intake. By pulling the plug on top of the valve, the valve is locked into the closed position and will prevent any air from being extracted. This is valuable air that, at idle-2200 rpms (estimate) will assist in getting your turbo boost up. I would be very interested to see the torque curve on a dyno with the EGR enabled vs. disabled. As for answering your original questions:

Simply pull the plug off the top of the EGR valve and wrap both male and female ends in tape (or at least thats what i did)

Yes, it will throw a code if you read it with NGS, but can simply be cleared with a tuner (diablo, superchips) or just unplugging the battery. The check engine light DOES NOT come on.

As for gas mileage, i do not carefully calculate mine, but it SEEMS to have boosted mine marginally, maybe half mile to the gallon.

PS- i also removed the throttle plate from the intake elbow (used for backpressure for the EGR, the plates are only in early model 03's and the new 04's) Both of these WILL decrease the time it takes for your turbo to spool up, by a noticeable yet not drastic amount."

Some people don't get codes, some do. The valve defaults to closed, so unplug it when it's closed and there you go.

It IS VERY informative ! As I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, I DO know where to point people to find out the info they are requesting......

From what I've read, in an '04, you will NOT get the code for unhooking it. In an '05 & up you will. But I can not tell you what the rest of the story is....which is why I directed you to the places I did.

Sorry, you WILL get a code, but the CEL will NOT come on.....

Well I unplugged mine and its an 04 and it threw a code. So I used one of the available bolts on the motor and bolted it on plugged up until I get the tuner.

I didn't consider the sticky because it's usually , don't do this and that......

The search tools suck on these sites.......

I prefer a conversation about my requested information...... but it was intelligently put together, and based on the effort that went behind it I believe I can trust the information. Thanks for the tip

I'm actually getting ready to ask another tech question, I'll consult the sticky first
