Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I came by this forum and subject while looking for my 4th expedition and I had some questions about towing capabilities. I'm thinking about purchasing a 2014 Expedition EL Limited. I do not believe it is equipment with the HD towing package, but it does have an axle code = 16 (3.73). Does code 16 alone allow to tow more than 6600lbs?

Thank you for any help on this.

My Navigator has the tow package, and the 16 diffs, open, 3.73 ratio, and i tow a 6800lb trailer with it, struggles on the steep hills, but overall tows the trailer quite well for the power output and size of vehicle! I would really like to find a limited slip 3.73 rear housing to swap in, would make winter driving better I’m sure!
Thank you for the input. My new trailer weighs 7400lbs. I'll keep looking out for a slightly used expedition with the HD tow package. So far kind of hard to find.
Would anyone know what else is needed to get to the HD tow package, for example, if I found one with an axle code of 16 and installed a larger transmission cooler, would be good? Are there other options required like transmission gear shifting, sway bars, etc.
Thanks,
Surfdag
