Bad Alternator???

hi everone so i havnt had this problem until i installed to 10" kicker subs in my truck (600 watt amp). i can drive it around for a couple days and it will be fine then it just wont start. like today i drove it for about 15 minutes then shut it off came back out to go out and it wouldnt start i had to put the battery from the mud truck in her. i allready checked to see if i left anything on and i didnt. could it be my alternator isnt powerful enought to keep the battery charged with the subs and all the other lights i got. or do i just need to get a compasitor? by the way its a 1995 f-150 with the 300 i6 and a manual 4 speed with OD.

Any imput would be appreciated.

thanks

I think you pretty much answered your own question. The alternator just can't keep up with the consumption level you have, and a capacitor won't help, it's just a reservoir for energy, once depleted (that will happen fast), you'll start starving your battery again. There is an upgrade that has been done a lot to address these issues, do a search, it's the 3G alternator replacement.

Doing a 3G swap would be cheaper than getting a new 2G alternator. Swap to a 130 amp 3G and you will be much happier.

600 watts shouldn't be too much for the 95 amp stocker. I ran 900rms off my 95 amp in my Lightning for a while. Have you tested the alternator or battery? How many other lights do you have?

Do NOT get a cap.. Waste of money.

i tested the battery and its fine and the one from my mud truck died today whem i parked it. the only other lights i have are my 5 cab lights on the top and i have two lights mounted on my bumper. ive decided to do the swap to the 3g so if i get a winch and any more lights i know it will be fine.
