replacing shackle and bracket

Hello all,

I am replacing my shackle and bracket on my 94 Ford Ranger 2WD super cab, 3.0L engine.

It is rusted out and snap off. The leaf spring has been riding on the truck bed for a while.

I have searched the forum and found useful information about how to do it, and where to find parts. Thank you.

Anyway, I've found problem that need advise from you.

I have removed all rivets and bolts, prepared the surface.
Basically, ready to install the new one.

The problem is that I cant relief tension on leaf spring, it is way up high touch the bed.

From what I understand, you have to jack the frame up and put support under rear axle. Did that but still cant force the leaf spring down. So, I cannot bolt it to the bracket. Any advise please?

Thank you.

when i did mine i removed the bed so it made it easier. I think i kept the wheels on the ground and just jacked the frame up it was not an issue at all.

You may have to jack up the frame and use blocks to get the frame high enough to reattach the spring.

I think he might have a jackstand under the axle.I think he should remove the jackstand. I did mine with the wheel on the ground and just jacked up the frame. I remember it was no problem to get the spring on.

Yo also what to lower the truck to the ground and then tighten the shackle bolts!!!!

Yes. that was I did.
I jack up the truck from axle and place jack stand under the frame.
Then remove floor jack from the axle.

At this point, weight are on front wheels and jack stands,
both rear wheel are off the ground. The rear shackle of the broken side is floating in the air touching the bed and I cant get it lower to install it to the bracket.

So, I should jack the frame from rear end using some block, until frame is high enough?

Thank you for all input.

Yes. That is what my earlier reply intended to suggest.

To replace shackle and hanger, there are several posts already.
My problem is that I cant release tension on leaf spring because I can't lift rear end high enough.

As michigan66 suggest, so I used 6x6 lumber about 1 1/2 feet long together with the floor jack and able to lift rear end high enough to release tension from leaf spring.
With little effort, I can align leaf spring with the shackle and bolt it.

Anyway, my lumber is too tall. So I can not use it right away.
I have to jack up with shorter lumber first (about 1 foot), put jack stand underneath, and then jack up again with 1 1/2 feet lumber.
