Ignition troubles

my neighbor has a ranger which he says is an 8 cyl . when we start it up it only seems to run on 4-5 cylinders but once warmed up it runs fine any suggestions?

Lift up the hood. You should only find a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. When was the last time plugs and wires were changed? By the way, what year is the Ranger?
