Well while I was changing my u joints the other day i was doin some breif inspections and came across a kind of disturbing sight. I noticed that the right rear leaf spring, the rear of it was up against the bottom of my bed. I was just like wtf. And i noticed that appearantly my leaf spring shackle has rusted through and broke off. So now the back end of my leaf spring is sittin in my bed, with no support. I'm really worried driving it that i'll go around a turn and end up with my rear coming out. I noticed it appears to be rivets holding the shackle on, so best guess would be to drill these rivits out correct? But the biggest problem I'm havin is finding replacement OEM hangers. I have looked all over and cant find a set of replacement hangers/shackles anywhere. Anybody know where I could get some? And possibly have another way of gettin the old shackle off? Thanks.
My dad's 95 F150 did that. I bought new hangers for Ford, and installed them with new drop shackles to lower the rear some. I used a grinder, and drill to get the rivets out. I used 1/2"x20 grade 8 bolts, and lock-nuts to re-attach the new hangers. I had to drill out the mounts, and frame just a little.
when you get that rusty hanger off, look for the frame where the 2x2inch hole is and how thin it is. if it is thin - and I bet it is, you need to engineer something like my world famous ford rusty frame fix - look in projects for that title and my 'new blue' truck to see what one looks like.
very common. very tragic. it WILL put your truck in the graveyard.
Yes sir, I have them rust free original used no problem. Hanger, shackle and both main bolts and nuts. They always look like new from here, Ware Shoals, SC 29692. I have or can get about anything factory original you could need for your frame and suspension. Just give me a shout anytime. Mike.
my 1992 needed two new shackles, left and right, last inspection. My garage did both, using Ford parts for 600 dollars. I thought was a fair price..since i didn't feel like doing it.
Its something you and I wouldnt want to do. I spent 6 hrs replacing one rear shackle. PITA! One more thing. Soak the bolt that goes through the spring. It was a bitch to get off since it was somewhat rusted inside the bushing.

I would do it for $500 everyday, and be
Not that hard with right tool, and equipment. I did both sides of my dad's truck.
I usually sell these as a complete assembly, rear hanger and shackle with the two big nuts and bolts for...oops, I'm not supposed to say prices on the forums. Just shoot me an email or call if anyone wants some! They ain't new but they are solid as the day is long in the summer time and the bushings and bolts show little wear.
Sorry I can't keep my current web site up to date with inventory but look for huge changes soon with a completely new web site and up to date inventory lists.
Sorry for the mini-hijack of the thread, I got carried away!
Those shackles are a DIY, like they say, grind off the rivets, use grade 8 bolts and don't drop the shackle assembly on your forehead like I did. Just trying to help.
