Hey guys,
So i have a 2002 f250 v-10 auto. A couple nights ago i went to start my truck and herd a very fast clicking noise when trying to start my truck. During the clicking i heard the engine trying to turn over very very slowly. Turned the key off and tried to start it again and nothing, not even a noise. So today i changed the battery, all battery cables, the starter, the starter relay. went to go fire it up and it worked! just wait.... i turned the truck off and put my tools away and went to go start it again and NOTHING! I check all the ground and they all looked great! I though well maybe i got the wrong relay or maybe i need to replace another one. So i went to check which relay under the fuse panel under the steering wheel. i tried to start the truck and feel which relay was making noise. All but 2 of them were clicking when i would turn the key???? Is that normal?? I'm all out of ideas and patience. Anything would help out a lot thanks.
Well the battery was almost shot, the cables had corrosion all over them. A lot of people told me that it was probably a battery problem. So when i replaced that and still nothing then i went to the starter, then the relay. Now i'm out of ideas
Was just shown this by a Ford technician. On your driver side inner fender, you will see a plastic cover that has CAUTION on it. A positive cable from battery leads into it. A black wire leads out, with a fuseable link to the fuse panel. Pop that plastic cover off. (you may want to disconnect battery first, its a hot wire) You may see all kinds of corrosion. My wire was moments from breaking on its own. I touched it and it broke off. The wires are bolted together on a stud under that plastic cover.
theres a tsb that a v10 has to be reflashed after changing the battery or it can cause no start or stalling issues, been there done that many times, ran a used truck dealer. Sounds stupid but im serious.
Nolan, Don't worry about snakeside's comments. If you could crank it and it didn't start, then worry more about his comments.
Double check all your connections, esp. the relay connections and the starter bolts.
When you changed the cables, did you clean the spot on the block were the ground connects? When you replaced the starter, did you clean the mounting surface on the bell housing? Thats where the starter gets its ground.
does the relay under the hood click loudly when you turn the key to start? Do you have all other accessories? lights, radio, wipers, power windows, locks. etc.?
well the weird thing was right after i replaced the starter it fired right up. I shut the truck off and put my tools away then nothing, no clicking or anything. When i turn my key to the on position lights and gauges all work. A couple lights stay on if that means anything, the battery and the check gauge light. no it does not make any clicking noise when i turn the key. I tried replacing the starter relay but that did nothing, is there more relays in the engine compartment that i should replace?? Thanks for the feed back
