So the pass-thru wires have nothing to do with upfitter switches? Are any of them heavy enough gauge to connect my ham radio to the battery? I'd fuse them inline under the dash.
I guess a good additional question is how much current does your radio draw under highest power load conditions, keyed down (probably on a FM voice mode?) ... Aux-1 and Aux-2 are fused at 25A and I noticed they are larger (lower AWG) than Aux-3 and Aux-4 so I'm willing to guess that the pass through wires are sized for the highest expected load. I'm estimating they're 16AWG. The convenient thing is that upfitters are controlled by ignition accessory. If you were going to directly connect to the battery anyway, I would just run my own wires and eliminate the guesswork.
Can anyone confirm the color of the pass through wires on a 2011 F-350? (gas engine).
I have been following this discussion (which is extremely helpful) and plan to install some bed lights to an up fitter switch. I found the upfitter wires in the cab. I also found another harness in the cab with many blunt wires. In the engine compartment I found what seems to be the pass through wires (the ones that are almost impossible to reach).
If I am looking at the right wires they should be:
Brown-white stripe
White
White-orange stripe
Grey-orange stripe
If these are the pass-through wires, does anyone have suggestions on the best way to splice these in the engine compartment? Even if I had small hands I am not sure how I would get in that small space to connect to the tiny bit of wire.
