I bought this truck a couple months back and it had been sitting basically for a year. 100k good looking truck. Discovered a hole in the rear gas tank so, I swapped it out with a new tank and new fuel pump. After I was done I also did the fuel filter. After a while I started to smell gas. When I killed it and got out of the truck and occasionally will smell it in the cab. I have checked the canister purge solenoid and been all over under the truck looking for leaking fuel and found none. I am planning on going on a big trip tomorrow so I filled both tanks up today and drove to work. When I got home I was still hunting for the smell and took the back gas cap off and gas came pouring out. Where do I go from here?
is both your tanks working properly it might be the transfer pump on the frame backing up (if it has one) im not to sure if it does, or it could be a pinched line and its cycling back cause of pressure
it should have just 2 pumps both intank. it sounds like the issue im having its cross filling its just wierd its sending it to the new pump. where did the pump come from?
idk bout a f250 but i do know on a 1991 5.0 dual tank with in tanke fp that if one fp isnt the right one or if it aint working right itll flood the other tank, flood the line so it wont start or suck air into the tanks and or lines trust me i know lol
Were you running off the front tank when this happened? If you were, it's probably a bad check valve in the front fuel delivery module. I've read posts about this quite a few times on here. I don't know if Ford recalled this or not but you could call your local dealership about this and they will probably know exactly what's happening.

Well I dropped the rear tank again and checked everything (by myself, which was not on my bucket list). Replaced the gasket on the fuel pump. If that don't change anything I will change the front pump. Then I will start to change evaporative system parts. On a side note if you look for parts for a 97 F250HD on rock auto I am finding that I have to look at 96 because they say the parts don't fit a 97 (I even called). I guess no one told them they built my truck.
The problem is in Rock Auto's Database. For made an F250 (light duty (7700 GVWR) in 1997 with the 10th generation body and that's where the confusion is. I don't think there are any part differences from 95-97 (9th gen) F250.
