Hi everyone. Now I am ready to buy new shocks. I have a 77' F100 Ranger that is completely stock. It rides like I'm sitting on a balloon. I would like suggestions for shocks if I could please. Medium to firm ride is great and would like a little more stability. Open to all suggestions except raising or lowering kits. Just keeping it where it rides will be fine, or at least close. Thanks.
1. Bilstein HD. .... got'em on my 01 Supercrew and Pontiac convertible equipped with a fulll Hotchkis Suspension System.
2. KYB Gas-Adjust... got 'em on both my Mustangs.
2.5 KYB Gas GR2. I had these on previous daily drivers and they ride great - firm not harsh.
3. Rancho RS5000.. . got 'em on my F-Bomb
I put Monroe gas magnum on my stock F250 4x2 and I am very pleased with them. Cost about $25 each. Not as good as the others mentioned, but for my truck the ride is very nice.
BTW it had the OEM shocks on it and I couldn't believe how beat these things were. Only had 86K miles, but they looked like they were off a WWII tank. Completely useless, leaking, move them in and out with your pinky.
Btw, Bilsteins carry a lifetime warranty to the original owner. OEM shocks are typically good for about 35K miles. I'm gonna install some KYB GR2s on my PT this fall cuz the ride has really deteriorated. Yeah it's a 2001 with 42K but I only drive 18 miles a day to and from the office.
I had Edelbrock's IAS shocks on my 98 Ranger (gave it to my brother) and it was OK - just not worth it.

That is good info to know. My 08 Expy has 59K miles on it and the ride has gotten harsher-which with worn shocks/struts you would think would be the opposite.
I put Monroe Gas Magnums on my truck about 17 years ago. The original ones I pulled off had a 3/8'' piston and the new Gas Magnums have a 5/8'' piston. I'm still running on them and I'm very pleased to this day.
Thanks everyone. Keep the options coming. I can figure most common sense things out, but you can't fabricate experience. I really appreciate all of yours.
