The two brands the majority seem to go with are the Rancho 9000's and the Bilsteins. I went with the Ranchos for the adjustability and they have done really well for me - good ride and not too firm.
I had 4 RS9000's installed on mine last week. Drove the truck 800 miles loaded down this past weekend and I love them. I have them on setting #4, but the ride quality and handling is definitely better. On any type of turn, a rough ride would make the truck lose wheel contact..but with these shocks that's over.
I installed some Monroes on my 2000 7.3 4x4 a couple of months ago and it helped. Now, however I'm having vicious roll problems where if the bumps are uneven the truck will roll repeatedly from side to side. It's bad enough that I won't let my wife or daughter drive it. I'll pull the shocks to check them, but I've never experienced anything like this before.
