No one ever had air assist did they? They had hydraulic assist, but I would think air would be too "springy". You can't have the wheels hit something and bounce against a air cylinder.
I have ran Ford 9000's and corn binders with air steering. Was a bitch to turn around in a tight spot as they was always out of air and the brakes would set till ya built up enough air to finish the turn around.
No, An argument between my neighbor and I, he says his 88 F350 came from the factory with Air Assist Steering, Even stated he had to buy repair parts from Ford!
I told him it was an aftermarket kit ... He insists it's factory Ford!
What confuses me is the fact that the truck also has Hyd power steering!
I have had several big rigs with Air assist, when they first came out they sucked, but after a year or two they improved a lot and became a very good alternative and work awesome on very little air.
I call shenanigans on the air assist steering. If it existed, on light duty trucks no less, there will be pictures and documents floating around. Can anyone dig anything up?
I doubt it on a small truck also. The only reason they seem to consider air operated equipment on a larger truck is because they usually have a air compressor already there for the brakes. I have seen passenger side "electric" windows that were air operated as well as air operated wipers on the larger trucks with air brakes.
