I'm assuming my electric window switch's contacts are just getting corroded or something as it has slowly stopped working - driver's side only. Are these easy to fix or is it a trip to the stealership?
Yes they are an easy fix but its not the contacts its the switch itself. A small issue on the 2006's it seems for most people. Its like a $40-50 part from ford to get the new switches.
Well sorry man. If you do a search you will find some more information on this issue. Some people have tried to just clean the contacts only for the problem to return a short while later.
both driver and passenger eventually went out on mine idk what it is but seems its just something out trucks do. If ur lucky find a crashed truck or a junk one and just grab some switches out of it that way its not $50 for a tiny little part.
I have an 07 F150 and already had the driver door switch replaced. Luckly it was still under warranty. Sometimes the switch would stop in the middle of lower or raising the window. The windows still seem like they take forever to come up. Does anyone have that problem?
For those who are going to try to clean the contact I would try using some type of emry cloth or even try some steel wool. I would be careful to not scratch the contacts too much. But thanks for the link.
scrape the contacts gently with a pin, blow the dust out with compressed air, and apply a light coat of anti-oxidant jelly. Works like new!
I used the GROTE brand jelly intended for light bulbs and trailer harness plugs---comes in a toothpaste-like tube at autoparts stores.
Ah very nice. The last post I read about a guy doing this he said it stopped working again a few weeks later so this is good news in case it happens to my truck.
i am all for fixing stuff instead of replacing, but i just bought this part for $40 on ebay. it is brand new and should last at least a few years. and for $40, i would rather replace than mess around with the little parts.
