It will soon be time to start shopping for tires for my 77 F150 4x4. I'm adding a 4" lift this summer so I'll be needing some larger tires. Probably going with 35s but maybe 33s.
I really like the looks of the Boggers. I run my truck on the road as much as off road but it's not a daily driver. Usually just to haul something or take the four-wheeler to the hunting cabin.
First question. Are the boggers too aggresive for on-street driving? ie: do they vibrate you to death?
Also, how is the tread wear on them? They're quite pricey so I don't want them to wear out quick.
Finally, do they have enough side bite? ie: If you are going along the side of a steep hill, will the truck not slide sideways down the hill?
For onroad driving, they may not be the best if you can't stand a very lound hmmm of the tires. Treadwear has been good for me, but they will wear faster than most other tires as it is just a design flaw.
If you air down your tires to go cruising around offroad, you will have great sidebite on them. Look at all of the rock crawling competitions, they are one of the most popular tire choices.
They will definitely wear faster on the road because they are intentionally made out of a softer rubber to provide better grip and lug flex. That's the way they are designed.
the boggers are by far the best off road tire ut on the market today. they wear down very fast if driven on the street a lot. my recomendation would be go with the super swamper tsl/sx. i have run on mine both on and off road since last october and i havent had any complaints. they arent as aggresie but they do have simmilar side lugs to the bogger. i think you would like the tsl.sx better if u plan opn doin a lot of on road and will love either of em off road.
go bogger man, i have almost 10000 on my 39's, they r about half worn down now. But i rotate them every 200 and check the pressure just about every time i drive it (19 front 18 back)
anyways, overall if balanced right they ride great on the road. And as the tires wear down they get louder and louder and louder. but its a pleasant noise.
As for their wheelin characteristics....they rock, their lateral traction isnt quite up to par with say..the tsl, but they kick *** in everything else. Especailly in mud. one great thing about them is how they self clean. You dont have to spin them near as hard as other tires to move foward in gooey stuff. spin them slow and they usually clean pretty well. But if you hold it to tha floorboard and spin em up, youll take off like a bat outta hell.
Boggers are the ultimate off road tire but in the same token they are probably the worst street tire. They are extremely loud, and wear out very fast. 20,000mi or less is typical mileage from a set of boggers. My brother has a set of 40" boggers on his Jeep and he has problems w/ the tires actaually vibriting nuts loose (nylocks non the less!). For an off road machine they are probably the best tire you can buy but a street friendly tire they are not.
