I got the Husky Liners mud guards the OP posted... quality stuff, easy install (mostly). They came with clear liner stickers that go between the mud guard and the fender to prevent paint wear. I didn't use them. Are they a necessity?

Are they necessary? I look at it like this, imagine putting a hand full of sand in your underwear then running a marathon. Just a side note to anyone ordering these, there is a difference between a "flared fender" and a "fender flare". Keep this in mind when ordering, just because your fenders are flared doesn't mean you have fender flares. Make sense...good.

It's a little more work to apply the clear film that they provide, but let me ask you this......why do you think Husky provides the film with their fender flares? I'm sure it's not because they like putting extra stuff in the box.

I don't like sand in my britches cause it leads to a painful case of monkey-butt, and I don't like things rubbing on my paint because it leads to a painful case of Doh!

I used the film.

I'm sure it was included for a reason... but my assumption is that it is for those putting their rigs through their paces. Wasn't sure if they were required for my garaged, lucky if its driven 500 miles a month vehicle.

Thanks for the straightforward answers.

I'd LOVE to find some mud flaps that say King Ranch on the bottom.

Looks like Duraflap has some custom ones and can make whatever you want. But they only come in black.

I got the Husky ones, went on very easy. The only drilling is through the plastic inside the wheel well. It just keeps everything looking neat and clean. The screws pull everything tight together so there is no gap, other then that no drilling into metal, means no rust. They look good too, and keep all the snow and mud off my running boards too.

The mud and snow on the pipes is what prompted me to get them.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but did you use the plastic, kmont?

Yes, I put the protective plastic on first. It will keep the metal from getting scratched from the flaps when dirt gets in between. It only took about 20 min to put everything on. The protective coating on all 4 first then the mud flaps.
