Hi to all~ please help! I started my car tonight after the car had been off at a friends house for approx 4 hours (all lights were off in car) I started the car fine but as I drove the 9 miles to my house the headlights became dimmer and dimmer. As I neared my house the DVD player turned off and the battery voltage meter was on LOW. I pulled in the driveway and turned the car off. I went to restart directly after turning off and the engine made a loud clicking noise. I was about to have a friend "jump" the car off and thought I would try to crank it and low and behold it started. I decided to take it for a cruise (everything in the car off.. no a/c or radio) around the block hoping the alt. would charge the battery. After driving for approx 1/2 mile the lights dimmed and as I pulled back in the driveway all the dash lights and the headlights turned off but strangely enough the interior lights came on. The only other problem I have ever had with this car is the drivers seat went out along with the memory seat controls and the mirror controls. I hope someone knows something about this and could lend some advice. Thanks so much!!! ~ Summer~

I did that with no luck. But took it to auto zone this morning and they told me the alt. is toast and a refurb is $260.00. I went ahead and ordered it. Is it difficult to put a new one in? Remember you are talking to a female!!! hahaha
I'd start by removing, cleaning, and reinstalling the battery terminals.
Alloro has probably nailed it.
This has to be one of the most neglected points of maintainance in vehicle ownership, right up there with failure to check tire pressures. Todays vehicles are so dependent on the power of the alternator and battery that it is hard to understand how it could be so overlooked.
Each spring and each fall the Electrical system should be checked and serviced and at least once each month the tires should be physically checked with an accurate gage for proper air pressure and wear.
Okay, I'll get out of the pulpit now. Sermon's over.
And since alloro hasent said it, welcome to the FTE and enjoy your stay.

It's not too hard but it does take a bit of strength to release the tension on the belt. I suggest that you offer $20.00 to someone at Auto Zone to install it there if you don't have the tools, experience or the strength.
I got it!! I bought the book and it wasnt to difficult just EXTREMELY hot with some scraped hand and knuckles!! Thanks so much!! So while im in the fix it mode. Does anyone have any ideas on why my drivers side seat would stop working, passenger seat still works. My memory control doesnt work for either seat and my mirror control doesnt work. This all happened at the same time. I replaced the relay and the fuse with no luck! I love this forum you guys are the best! Oh Alloro and Moto Mel, while I was at it I cleaned my connectors and checked my tire pressure!

Good for you! That bit of maintainance is very important. I don't know about the seats on the Expys and Navigators as I haven't pulled mine, yet. I do know that the Mark VIIIs have a hidden fuse in the electrical control box under the seats that may apply, both sides. You may be able to see it with a small mirror. Also, now that you have cleaned the terminals you might try resetting the memory control again and see if it works now.
If you don't get any replies to the seat problem you should start a new thread.
YAY!!! Fuse # 3 wasnt even in the fuse diagram but I replaced it and YAY YAY YAY!! Then I found out why it blew to begin with. There is a grinding when you go to raise the whole seat up. I took the foam and cover off and noticed as I raise the front up it moves with a motor and on the console side of the seat there is another motor that appearently raises the seat up and down that makes a grinding noise but does nothing. I have checked to make sure nothing is binding it up, and the rod moves freely when i turn it. ????? So thanks so much for saving me probably $1000.00 I am shocked we were able to do all of these things with your help at home! You guys are the BEST!!!!
