I was wondering how much it would cost to do a transmission swap in a 1993 ford f-150 flareside, it has a manual and want to change to automatic. it is a 4x4. How much would the total cost most likely be for the swap?
thanks i was wondering about how much it would cost because i was looking at one that was for sale that was a manual. but now that i know how much the tranny would cost me im not interested any more. thanks for the help.
BTW, you could also do it for $3-4 hundred, but you'd still have a clutch pedal hanging and you'd shift it via an adapted floor shifter. Sound good? Oh yea, and you might have to swap in a couple of those $125 trannies to get a good one.....
Like I said, buy what you want, there is no shortage of used trucks.
How would it work if I did it for 3-4 hundred?? What would be done and would it be a regular automatic (meaning not having to shift from 1st, 2nd so on. Or could I just put it in drive and it shift by itself??
You would be buying a used transmission, which may or may not work, thus the comment about doing it several times. You would not be putting in an auto trans column, nor would you swap to a set of auto pedals, so you'd have a clutch pedal there, and an adapted shifter. If it worked, it would shift by itself.
You are buying a truck, right? Buy one with an automatic.
