New Excursion that needs TLC

Hello All,

This is my first post on the site after a lot of surfing. Last week I picked up a 2000 X V10 4x4 from a friend (original owner). Maintenance wise he took superb care of this truck. All the fluids look great and the closer I look the better I feel about the purchase. The only area he did not take care of was the interior. He lives on a dirt road in Arizona. This truck has dirt in every possible place.

One issue I have is all of the door lock actuators are not working and the locks are very stiff (push buttons not lock cylinders). Today I took off one of the door panels and pulled out the door latch. The locking mechanism was very stiff. I did what I could to clean and lube and now it feels smooth and positive however it still requires some force to lock and unlock. Is this normal? I don't want to purchase new actuators to have them burn up because of the resistance.

On that note are the actuators on ebay any good?

I've waited for years to buy this truck and now it's in my garage!

You may want to also check to see if there is any friction between the lock tab on top (plastic piece) and the door panel. Mine was stiff and I bend the metal shaft it was connected on to help align the tab in the slot on the door panel. It helped a lot.

Hit those stiff locks with some Fluid Film. It worked wonders on alot stiff and rusted things that just would not move. The best part is that it doesn't just dry up after awhile, it coats whatever you spray it on an keeps working. I sprayed by door and hood latches and it's still working!

You can actually get them fixed for free, all it'll cost you is some time. I worked on mine and now they lock and unlock with authority!
