Bronco Shopping ?

Hello out there, I'm going to buy another Bronco soon and would appreciate any advise you folks would be willin to share. I've had two Broncos in the past a 90 XLT my first, it was a rust bucket with a million miles on it. However, it inspired me to buy a second, it was a 87 XLT in much better shape. I bought the 87 thinking I would have the 90 for parts down the road. Anyway, I sold the pair awhile back for some extra cash when we bought a house, and now I'm thinking of buying my third. Can't wait!!! And that's what brings me to you. I think I'd like to go with a 1978 or 79 and was lookin for any advise you all might have to share. Thanks,

Get one with the 400 in it, or one somebody already dropped a 460 in. The 351M is a dog.

The 78'-79' are possible the most disirable years because they are the only full size Broncos with a solid front axle. Also they have a 9" out back which have there good points and bad. Those years also have a badass agressive grill that hasnt really been matched up untill the new Superduty's. All this means that the prices are high on trucks that are in good shape. If you are willing to do some restoration, its a buyers market. I just bought a 92' Bronco yesterday for a great deal! I'm going to post some pics in a new thred soon. I just took my time looking in Craigs list. Good luck

Thanks, I'm really tryin to learn the pros & cons of these years, And "what to look for when buying" (troubleshooting ect.) So what's the down side of the 9" rear? I am trying to learn as much as I can here (GREAT SITE) but not always sure what to ask.

Probubly the biggest pain is there is no eazy way to service/inspect them. On the flip side, if your changing gears, their great because you work on the bench. I believe you can build strength into a 9" alot cheaper than an 8.8

Thank you both for the feedback. And if anybody else has more to add, I'd be happy to hear it. What I'm really lookin for is something that's got about 100k in the 4 to 5k range. (yeah I know... but I do see em) The main reason for this is... I will need it to drive right away & if I get something that somebody else has done mods to, I won't be able to use this site (GREAT site) as well. I'm not totally against something with a rebulit motor, trans ect. But if I get one thats mostly just been maintained I will enjoy learning to do the improvements & mods myself as I go. I plan to keep this one & wanna get it right. So if anybody else has anything to add about 78-79 "Bronco Shopping" Please... let me know. You might also like to know that I only need to drive it about 7-9k a year so gas isn't a big problem, but, I do need it to be road ready most of the time. I guess what I'm lookin for is feedback on things like c6 or 4sp, engine type, & trouble shooting. I've been lookin at this site for awhile now, & although it's packed with great info, I'm not really finding alot about why people prefer "this" over "that". Okay... some, But I'd really like to hear what You Bronco lovers think, and why. Thanks again,
