'05 F150 FX4 SCRW 4x4 Shift on Fly Problem
When I try to shift into 4x4 on the fly my front hubs make a horrible grinding noise. I brought it to ford and they said I needed new hubs. So I brought it to my mechanic (not the dealership) and got new hubs put in yet it made the same noise, so out went the new hubs. I brought it to a different mechanic (former ford mechanic) and after a bunch of testing it is showing a code problem (P1824 & P1824-2F) in the transfer case. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so what needed to be fixed, as I am assuming anything in the transfer case is going to be expensive. I did have the 4x4 shift motor replaced a couple years ago on a recall.

You have an IWE (integrated wheel end) problem. Sorry you wasted your money on new hubs. Your problem is simply vaccum related. Do a search on "everything you want to know about IWE. There is a ton of info on this forum. BTW, a really easy and inexpensive fix.
