Hi everybody, New to the forum today and I have some questions. I own a 2006 f150 4x4 and want some suggestions on adding power to the truck. Already have exhaust & K&N air filter. It is the 5.4 motor. I bought the truck with a bushing in front to level truck so it appears like a slightly lifted & level truck. I currently have 285/70/17 tires on it but they look a little small on it. What would you suggest to go up to? 305/70/17? I really like the width of current tire just not the height. I am going with BFG tires in a few days. What type of wheels would you suggest as well, the ones I have are all pitted and I cant polish them out. What type of wheel finishes holds up to snow/water/dirt etc...? I really like the outlaw li (American racing) what do you think? On a side note I use to own a Expedition and blew a plug out of head on way back from Arizona on cruise control. I was told the aluminum block combined with short threads cause this problem. Has this been addressed with my 2006 f150? And if not what should I do to prevent this? Take plugs out and put some lock tight on them? Thanks in advance for any help. Bill Vivers
The head design has changed. Your '06 will not have that problem. Do a search on spark plug change. You will find that there are issues - just different ones. The newer heads have deep thread heads - they can break off in the head when you change them. If you follow the TSB you may not have any problems. Have the Lisle spark plug tool handy - just in case.
Ok between the tires you have and the 305's you really aren't looking at that big of a size difference. Now I am not sure what you have now but the added aggressiveness of the BFG's may be enough to give the look you want. Just make sure that the BFG's you get are load range E otherwise your truck will burn through them if they are range D quicker.
As far as wheels go as long as you take care of them and clean them on a regular basis and don't go with the cheapest wheels on the market then its all about the look you want.
Personally I would not put on a chrome wheel but that is me. I also lean towards the KMC Wheels. I really like the look of the XD series they have on the market.
Just all ways loved my BFG tires and now that my Nittos are done I am having a hard time deciding. I really don't want more width but I would like a little taller tire. Any suggestions on sizes? I really like how truck rides & handles now.
