Thinking about intercooling my truck since I can get one for free but Not realy sure how to run the hoses its off a duramax so its either got the hoses at the top or bottom if I ran it with them at the top I could use real short piping but would have to mount it behind the rad wich would hurt cooling if I put it in front I could run the piping under the rad. My main question is how would I go about making the piping. Not sure if I'm going to do it because the cooler would probly be too big and cause lag. The way I want to do it is mount a small cooler down in the bumper but no one wants to give me one of thouse. So any one running an intercooler or who has run one what are your thoughts on this
ive got an intercooler on my baby. the pipes are 2" exhaust. if you keep them smaller like that then the lag isnt so bad. if you were to step up to the psd 3" then your gonna get bad lag. silicone sleeves can be had on ebay for a pretty good price, i got my intercooler off a 6.0 from someone who had installed a banks on his. it goes from the bottom of the radiator core support up to the bottom of the hood safety latch handle.
hope these pics give you an idea on what your gonna have to do
The only thng I see that I plan on doing different as far as mounting the intercooler is dropping the mounts from the body instead of up from the frame.
That way the intercooler moves with the body, not the frame.
You can find a ton of intercoolers on E Bay.
To small and the restriction and less heat transfer area might make your engine run worse.
yep, 2" to 3" then a 3" 90 in exhaust. And dave, I did it to theframe but it's just resting, not secured to it. There's cups that set around the square tube. It's secured to the radiator core support. I'll take pics when I get home and post em.
I expanded the pipe just a touch to fit snug in there and put a weded beed inside and out to hol it. I also got a silicone sleeve to go over it, just haven't gotten to it yet. I gotta weld a beed around al the pipe ends to keep it from slipping apart.
low boost. And I have had so much goin on I didn't get to check on it yet. I did turn the fuel up yesterday and that helped a bit. Still not where it should be. I'm dyin for a ats turn down and downpipe
I'm going to fab up a 2.5 round down pipe for now since I know holding my breath for ATS to start making them would just end up with me dead I mean if taking the mufler out help with EGTs and power a round downpipe should even with the tiny outlet if I had $$$$ to spend I'd look into an aroura turbo kit from them should have th other stuff too but money is a factor. You think you could get some pictures of where the pipes go down in the engine compartment?
they aren't offering the turbo kit anymore because they don't have the turn down and downpipe. I asked.... And ya, i'll try and post them tonight if I can get my hands on a computer again
cool thanks. I wounder why the guy that said he got a call from them saying they had them and were shipping him one never respounded when we asked who he talked too. Once I get the money for it set aside I wan't to organise a mass calling to ATS where we all call the same day and same time trying to get one might open their eyes to the fact that there is a market for them. if it keeps going this way with ATS I might have to save up and give banks a call.
