I have a 1965 F250 w/ a 352/C4 2bbl that has broken springs on the carb. The springs are in pieces so I'm not sure of the length or where they attach. One spring seems to have another spring inside of it. Maybe a previous repair? The truck doesn't idle very well. Thanks.
are you talking about the throttle return spring ?? If so, there was only a single spring used in this application...a problem many create issues with is not knowing where its supposed to attach to...which does make a big difference...another thing...if your throttle cable isnt broken but is stiff...with spring disconnected and/or disconnected from the carb...thats the problem as to why theres 2 springs on yours...when you look at the portion of the throttle cable immediately behind where it snaps onto the carb and where it is retained by the small clamp and bracket on the intake you should not see any cable whatsoever...if you do...your cable is broken when compared to new...you may try some graphite or speedo cable lube and work it in there...the throttle isnt at all a hard throttle to work on these trucks as original.
Where do you have your throttle springs connected to on either end as it is now ?? One should got into the 3 hole bracket under the coil mounting bolt..the bracket should have 3 holes in it...the other end should go onto the nylon 'wheel' immediately inboard of where the throttle cable attaches to..it has a groove in it for the spring.
The throttle cable looks ok to me. There is a large spring from the bracket holding the throttle cable going to the bottom hole on the carb. There is no spring on the nylon wheel. There was a small broken spring which was attached onto a bracket at the base of the carb. Was this one supposed to go to the nylon wheel?
theres only one throttle spring...it looks similar to the clutch spring at the throwout fork area...the carb spring goes from the nylon wheel to the small 3 holed brkt which is about 1/2" wide and 2 inches or so long and should have a 90 degree bend in it at the bolt mounting hole at the coil bracket mount area. Theres no spring for the throttle anywhere else on the engine as original.
Throttle spring is around 4" appprox of coiled area with the 2 'tails' on it..

Welcome to FTE
There is no such thing as a C4 transmission used behind any FE engine...in any passenger car or F100/350.
C4's were used with I-6's and 260/289/302's and some 351C's and 351W's.
1965/67 F100/250 352 2WD & F350 352 came with the MX Cruise-O-Matic which has 14 trans pan bolt holes. The C4 has 11.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don: There are two springs...since the truck has an A/T. Look at Illustration Section 97, page 16....at the carb end of the kickdown rod...basic number 7B146
C5AZ7B146F .. Accelerator Kickdown Control Lever Retracting Spring-2" free length-14 1/2 coils.
Fits: 1965/67 F100/350 352 MX C-O-M / 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 C6 / 1969/74 Econoline 302/C4.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other spring is: C5TZ9737E .. Accelerator Retracting Spring / 4.15" long / 13 1/2 coils / .56 O/D.
Fits: 1965/66 F100/250 2WD 352/MX C-O-M.
Don: Notice how/where this spring mounts. Since the OP's F250 has an A/T, it's not the same as a like truck w/a M/T.
Correct you are Bill...I keep forgetting how the C4 is confused by many it seems as the MX version of the COM...
as far as the throttle spring the OP mentioned having one spring inside of another...which Ive seen plenty on rigs that have aftermarket carbs and so on...
Thanks for the education. Can I use those Ford part #'s to get the correct springs and from where? The carb has a tag that says FoMoCo C5TF C.

----------------------------------------------------------- C5TZ9737E .. Accelerator Retracting Spring / Obsolete = No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
In 1969, Ford came out with a retracting spring kit. It had several springs w/different tensions in the box, and separate universal ends (looked like this: O---) that had to be cut to the proper length.
This is what C5TZ9737E was replaced with, why no one has any originals. This kit is also obsolete, the springs/universal ends are mickey-mouse at best.
Just go to a parts store, use the specs I posted to buy one that is close.
btw: The carb tag is handy to have, don't lose it. But it cannot be used to look up carb springs. These are listed separately in two places in the parts catalog.
