Anyone got a pic of how the choke spring/linkage is supposed to be on a single barrel carb on a 240/300? I recently rebuilt my 240 and can't for the life of me figure out how the choke spring is supposed to go on. Not even sure if I have the right spring. When I connect it the way I think, it won't let the choke stay out, just pulls it back in. Without the spring, the choke works its way out a little while driving causing it to run a little rough.
Do you have the choke stove pipes also hooked up? The choke spring needs a source of warm air to heat and open the choke. This is from two pipes. One supplies filtered air to the heating chamber in the exhaust manifold and two, returns the heated air to the choke housing.

Not sure what you mean by this. I have a manual choke, with the cable from inside the cab. I think this is for carbs with the automatic choke.
Also, the pics that were posted don't show the cable linkage coming from the truck. The spring I am refering to is like the throttle linkage spring that causes the throttle to come back to idle when you release the pedal.
The choke spring should pull the choke cable back to a full open position, but still allow for you to set the choke in a fixed postion and hold it there until you press the gas pedal. At least that is the way I think it works. It did work that way on a 66 Mustang I had that didn't have an automatic choke.
Kinda like the spring just puts enough pressure to keep the choke up until you set it and then the idle screw holds part 9597 in place until you press the pedal and relases it back to open position.
It probably sounds like I am rambling, but I can see it in my head.
Thanks Binkowski. That last link has me on the right path. I can see the two springs that I am asking about, but it just doesn't show where on the carb they are connected. But, I am closer and realize that I had one of them connected wrong. I will keep digging.
Was just hoping someone out there had a 240/300 and could share a picture of theirs so I would know exactly what to do.
Here are some pictures (lots of pictures actually) associated with my 69 f100 with a 1bbl carter yfa carb ontop of a 240CID engine.
You will have to rummage through the pictures to find ones associated with the carb/engine/etc. http://1drv.ms/1sZuJ1i
Thanks so much. Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town for a week and couldn't get on here to see the pics. Looks like a different carb than the one I have, but the pics will still help. I can see that I have the throttle spring wrong on mine. I will fix that and hopefully it will put me in the right direction for the choke spring.
