Thanks for the tips. It be a small welding job. Hopefully it wouldn't cost too much. I got a good amount of wiggle room when it comes to cost though. I've saved half of my mom since i started working since my parents made me now i can't stop. I could have bought a truck with no problems but whats the fun in that? Worst comes to worse I'll buy a welder and have my dad do it. He used to do welding for electric boat years ago, and at his current job when he started there in the 80's.
Josiah if your bed isn't that bad how bout getting patch panels from like lmc. They have panels for the bed too. I'd recommend contacting a bunch of local salvage, and parts yards and see what they got for beds. You never know what you'll find. My 91' while rusted to crap everywhere else has a perfect bed, not rot on the actual bed and some wheel well rot starting to show up on the passenger side.
the german junk limped back to guilford, so i dont have to drive to boston to look at it. when im done with that i will be changing my long overdue rear tire on the bike.
i guess i have to start reading the 6.0 forums now....
Hey Tanner, I am pretty familiar with LMC, but I have heard mixed reviews on using their metal. However, I haven't gotten a straight answer on where to get them from. When all is said and done, it will cost as much as getting a new bed since I am not a welder myself. There are a couple spots other than the wheel arches that are rotting too, so a newer complete bed would be the better bet. At least until I am able to do the welding myself.
Hope everybody has a good weekend. Playing some volleyball in Higganum, then gotta give the dog a bath! Then fireworks in cromwell tonight.
Josiah,
I put a Tabco floor and sill in my truck a few months back.
Fit was good, metal was thick, and they were made in this country!
Check out their website and see if they have what you need.
For anyone who is interested and didn't know number 1 prepared steel is bringing 11 cents a pound these days. At least that's what Alderman-Dow said yesterday when I dropped off a load of numer 1 prepared.
And in other news it's got to be true it's now been verified by 2 different scales. My truck really does weigh in between 6600 and 6700 pounds with a quarter tank of fuel. 6680 at the New Haven transfer station with a quarter tank and me in it 6640 at the scrap yard without ume in it and about 1/8 tank of fuel.
