Speed (Cruise) Control Help

Hi All,

I am having some difficulty starting my speed control feature -- it does not activate when I hit the "on" button (factory installed). I replaced the SCDS (speed control deactivator switch on the master break cylinder) after the diagnostics indicated that it was bad. Now, the diagnostics do not seem to indicate a problem - all the static checks pass and I hear the dynamic tests run. Yet, I still cannot turn it on (even after going past 45 mph).

Any other ideas/experiences?

I have a F250 2002 SuperCab that I recently bought used. Its my first truck (and first used-car/truck purchase).

Thanks a lot for your time and help.

Caleb

Does the light on the cluster illuminate when you push the 'ON' button?

on mine there are different buttons for ON and SET

ON turns the system on, but does not set a speed.

SET sets the cruising speed, but does not work until after ON has been pressed.

To set cruising speed, I must first press ON (at any time after the vehicle has been started) and then, when I'm at my cruising speed, press SET. At that point the little green light comes on, and I can take my foot off of the pedal.

The system stays on as long as the vehicle is on or until the OFF button has been pressed. If any CANCEL event happens (brakes, clutch, neutral) I can simply press the RESUME button to get back to the set cruising speed.

Yes, this is what I meant. Does it do that?

The light does not turn on when I hit the ON button. But, I went through the diagnostics (holding down the off button while turning the key to "Run", then hitting, quickly, ON, RES, SET, CRUISE -- or something like that). The green cruise light blinks after each press and after I press the last button, I hear the servos move.

At first, I saw the number of blinks indicating a bad SCDS instead of hearing the servos, so I replaced it. Now it still will not turn on, but I have concluded that the buttons and light work (or they would not trigger -- or blink during -- the diagnostics)

The light should not come on when you press the ON button.

The light will come on and the cruising speed will be set when you press the SET button after pressing the ON button while traveling >30mph

Both the 2008 I own now, and the 2001 I've driven in the past work this way.

Drive the truck to 50mph, press ON, then press SET. The green light should illuminate.

I have hit the ON and SET and still no light (I was going between 45 and 55). Next time I am on the highway, I will give it a shot again.

I have checked the relevant fuses, but not all the ones in the CJB. And, don't forget that I went through the self-diagnostics procedure.

You might try posting in the electrical forum. I've gotten some spot-on help from there before. Good luck!

My speed control works!!

As it turns out, I think I was wrong. I must have not tested it properly after replacing the SCDS. It turns on and off (from stepping on the break or hitting "Off") well.

Thanks for all your help!
