Ok, '99 Epedition, 60,000 miles. EB with AWD. Under a little load, like going up hill, with the gas about half way down. I have a rattle or vibration or something. It sounds like what ever it is it's beating the hell out of the floor. Under full acceleration it doesn't do it. Any ideas? Anybody else having the same problem?
I'd look at your exhaust sytem. Sounds like you have a pipe that has made contact with the frame somewhere. Can you reproduce the vibration by putting the trans in gear and increasing engine speed with the brake on? If so, you can jsut about rule out anything in the driveline. I had the same type of vibration in my '01 F150 with the V6. It had it from day one. The dealer ended up installing 2 mass dampers on the Y-pipe to calm it down.
Nope, won't do the vibration when you power-brake it. Only when rolling. Another thing I found out too. When I put it in 4WD as opposed to AWD, a slight turn of the steering wheel and it makes an awful noise. It binds real bad as well. Now, I know 4WD's bind somewhat, but my buddy also has a '99 and his is completley differen't. I put it in the shop this morning. I'm anxious to find out what's up
Ok, update.............. "we can't find anything wrong" I even took the tech for a drive and he didn't hear anything. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait until it breaks. Thanks
