I have a freeze plug that is leaking, very small leak, it will take alot of work to get to this plug to replace, I was wondering if anyone has had good luck using any stop leak products, any feed back would be appreciated.
I've used BAR's before in a pinch. But keep in mind, these products don't know exactly where the leak is and go there and fix it. So if it's plugging up your leak, it's also plugging up other areas as well.
Bars is a great temporary fix for any leak. Freeze plugs are usually simple to replace- it's the access that's a pain. Replacing the plugs is the way to go long term.
Even better temporary fix are eggs.
I actually dumped 4 raw eggs into a radiator once to get the car home 18 miles. Just make sure you flush the system before you remove the bad radiator- a lot easier than having to flush your system with the brand 'new' radiator. We made breakfast the next morning with the remaining dozen eggs and it was the funniest breakfast I've ever had.
i've hear that black pepper works too...i don't use the stuff...cause i can get cheap or free tows and i know what the inside of the engine looks like when it gets used...the last taurus i tore down i had to pressure wash the stuff out it looked like clay mud everywhere that the water ended.
That was a huge thing back in the 70's and 80's. Maybe still today. Sawdust in the tranny helps with noises, slipping for a few miles. I would imagine it would be a nightmare after it blocked fluid flow, got gummed up, etc.
And sawdust in transmissions. All the Iranian car dealers use these tricks.
Thats an old trick that goes as far back as vehicles do. Used car dealers would fill the old manual transmissions/rear ends to make them quiet, and not so loud, and when you let off of the gas you didn't feel a BIG back lash from everything being so warn with so many miles on it. The saw dust would swell up with the gear oil.
i pulled a used trans from an old falcon at the j/y and when i got it home to swap the pans it looked like that gunky grease that you find on the lip of the oil pan that's 2 inches thick. i figured it had been dusted. i know you can also put it in engines to quieten down bearing noises and bad lifter..
For the most part today, if that went on the local AG'S office would be railing someone in short order with the lemon laws that are in place. Or, I know here the state police have an auto fraud unit, who would be interested in that activity. I knew of a family that had a used car lot and the were spinning the speedometors back, and they did some jails time and were cleaned out.
