I was wondering if anybody had any info on aftermarket offroad tires for a 2006 with 275/55/20 size tire. Its been hard to find a place up here in Canada that can tell me how big over stock I can go without getting a lift or any mods of any sort.
I want a radical looking tire but don't want to give away my left teste either!!
The tires that came with it suck and I have put up with the perrellis(SP) long enough...I need some traction!! I go north off road but nothin radical and we do get quite a bit of snow where I am!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Alright lets see an aggressive tire that will give you good traction and not blow you budget out the window without doing any mods. I would recommend the Yokohama Geolander ATS. It is a nice tire with good tread some sidewall traction as well and does great in dirt and snow for someone who is not out bogging. Without doing any mods in the Yokohama you should be able to put on the 305/50/20's this is only a little bit bigger then what you have on the truck now but will give you tons more traction then what you are currently using.
You could also go a few other ways like Coopers are a nice tire and should be a little bit cheaper then the Geolanders but I don't know a whole lot about them.
Based on your rim size and the fact you don't want to do any mods the size I listed above is what you will have to go with or the same size that you already have. In either case there is not much difference between the 2 sizes. I hope this is helpful.
I just put a new set on my truck about a month ago and before I did I spent 4 months looking at all tires to find the one for me.
So in doing so I went through every website and looked at the specs and size charts to see what would fit on my truck. When it comes to your truck with the 20" rims you only have two choices unless you level or lift the truck. On other sizes it has more options.
A leveling kit is basically a spacer put between the coilspring setup and the coil bucket (for lack of a better term). These come in many sizes from many different vendors, but are desigened to allow for use up to a 35" tire on a 4x4 truck.
Here is a website for you to do some reading and a popular manufacturer of a leveling kit for our trucks.
OH well you can put a solid block under the front end to level the front and rear of the truck giving more ground clearance and a better look to the front of the truck overall. Go to my garage and check out my truck I have a 3" block under the front and a 1" under the rear. Its not quite lifting it but gives it a good overall look and its not that expensive to do either. And it allows you to put up to a 35" tire on the truck.
