I'm living in Missoula Montana and want to get my windows tinted. My back seat side windows have stock tint and my rear window is also tinted (or it is privacy glass). I am looking to tint my front seat side windows darker than the rears and get the rears tinted to match. I also want to put a light tint on the windshield. I am pretty aware of the MT tinting laws, but the laws simply dont allow dark enough tint for me. Any suggestions? Please PM me with contact info for a place. I have no problem paying cash and not getting a receipt as long as the guy is honest with his quality guarentee.
Suggestions on this thread are welcomed too.
And can everyone who has tint post a pic and tell me the percentage info?
I am trying to make a final decision on what I want.

Well I'll bet you don't want a ticket that comes with a fine and requires you to remove the illegal tint that you paid for. Better to just get the front ones done as dark as the law allows and get a certification sticker from the shop that does it. JMO. You may get away with darker too, don't know how law enforcement is in your neck of the woods. Best to be sure what the fine/procedure is for that before you proceed.
I would go with 20% on the front door windows and leave the windshield alone. I don't know what the laws are in your state, but I wouldn't be able to make it 5 miles without someone pulling me over for front windshield tint.
You could get a 6" strip on the top of the windshield done...
My wife had her Civic windows tinted when she bought it in 2002 new, and they are quite dark. Has never been stopped for the tinting in the 8 years she has had it, 3 years in Billings, and now 5 years in Belgrade with me. I know she had a shop do the tinting in Billings, so I would guess you don't have much to worry about, just ask people you see in Missoula with tinted windows what shop did theirs.
Thanks for the info guys. And I am only going to be living in montana for the next 5 months, then I head back to Washington. I live in a town that is pretty country. They tend to respect trucks there. Especially diesels. But I suppose it is a college town and it is just giving them a reason to pull me over. 6 different types of police in that area. I'm not scared to go darker than legal though. Anyone know the washington law?
I just had my tint redone last week. I went with 20% on the rear doors and rear window and 35% on the drivers doors. The guy removed all my old tint and removed the windows to install the new tint, no line around the edge and a lifetime guarantee that the tint will not lift, ripple or bubble. I am more than happy with the "darkness" and my cabin stays much cooler. Total price was $260 but well worth it for the quality of work. I'm in Oregon but at least that will give a basis for comparison on price.

I think you can go as dark as you want in Washington... you might want to check into that. Or just wait till you move there...
here is an interesting article from the Yakama herald new story it states that passanger cars and small SUV's can run max 35% on all passenger windows but large trucks and SUV's built on large truck chassis car run pretty much anything on all windows but the front doors which have to be 35%.
That pretty much follows with with what I found on the WSP website WA state Law it states in section "b" that you can go as dark as 24% on the rear windows if the manufacturer designated the vehicle as a "truck"
and the drivers door has to have an installer certification label on it to be legal in WA
I live in western washington and me and everyone I know has had 20% for a long time and I dont know anyone who has got a ticket for it. IMO 20% is ideal 35% isnt dark enough. I'd do all windows except for the windshield at 20.
Montana is more leniant with tint. Looks like I should get it done while I'm here. I think the shop said that they could do 25% legally. Which makes sense seeing that MT requires at least 24% of light to pass through the driver windows. And MT only requires 14% to pass through the rears. I think you are right KH85, I should probably go with 20% all around. Did you get yours done in Washington? because the law says 35% there. And does anyone know how dark the stock back window and rear side windows are
? i would like for all to match at 20%
Yes I have always got mine done from a local guy in washington. He will tell you when you get it done that it is illegal and you have to sign a waiver thing to let him off the hook. Also I was told that you can get some sort of "permission slip" deal that says you can legally have darker windows if someone that rides with you often is required to have their eyes shaded form the sun by their doctor. But im not sure how that works and to be honest with ya I wouldn't stress out about getting pulled over for it. I've been pulled over with it and never been told it was illegal.
For sure. Looks like I'm going with the 20% all around. excluding the windshield of course. I might want to do that 6" bar across the top of the windshield though. Suggestions on tint % for that? I'm sure it would look goofy to have that 20% and have clear right next to it.
You may want to consider what state your truck is registered in, and if the state you're moving to requires a vehicle inspection to register. Many states do and if they want to be strict they can require you to conform before you can get it registered.
