Changing fluid in my 5spd trans, I am using the Red Line D4 ATF. Question is to help with the gear rollover noise some have had good results with overfilling to 4 quarts or more, what do you all recommend ? 4, 4-1/2, or 5 ?
Howdy, I have a zf-5 in my truck, but I elected not to overfill her. Some do and some don't. Some say it helps and some don't. I don't overfill mine because the possibility exists that some of the overfill may get forced out and leak down onto the clutch, especially if working her hard when it is hot weather or pulling a heavy load.
What I did to cut back on the rollover noise was I added some sound dampening material under the carpet around the hump and up the firewall. I also glued some up inside the shifter boot. Almost quite as a mouse now.
As far as overfilling to help protect the tranny from the "diesel spikes" that everyone says causes the noise...I wouldn't bet on it...My zf has been in the truck now for over 10 years and is still going strong..."knock on wood" and I pull a heavy 5th wheel almost year round.
Hope that helps...and maybe save some money as that D4 is kinda expensive.
I guess I posted this friend stuff in the wrong thread, but it was getting a little over thunk there. I just have a few friends some are close friends and some are not, but that's OK with me. My Dad is my Dad and he will always be my Dad, we just didn't have a relationship where I could think of him as a buddy. Family can take the place of friends for me. I do like to think of some of the people on FTE as friends even though we most likely will never meet I guess I kind of think of the people on here as friends because we mostly have a common goal, sharing information and trying to help one an other. We have a little fun here too and that's a good thing but some just goes a little over my head (must be an age gap or something.
