Last month I found a 77 motorhome w/ a Kraco AM/FM Stereo/8-track/CB radio and a bunch of tapes. Haven't tested it yet, but I am planning on putting it into my 77 F100.
KRACO??? Man, talk about a blast from the past. The last time I saw one of those was about 25-30 years ago!!!
I've still got to see if it even works or find a place to fix it. Got lots of 8 tracks for my garage stereo and may as well have one in the truck. Just seems to "fit" that old orange truck of mine. I'll work on pics.
I think I had a KRACO in my 1971 Chevelle SS back in the 70's with a power amp jammin on Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Outlaws, Grand Funk, BTO, Aerosmith, Angel, Golden ear ring, Rush, Led Zeppelin, etc, etc and the list goes on and on, but I loved it and hated it all at the same time. I don't miss that big black box of 8-track tapes in the back seat thats for sure.
PS: now that I think about it, I still have that noisy amp, I believe it is a Bowman.
thanks for the link. idk i mite go with one out of lmc.
Thats cool, I was looking at those units, which are made by the same company, they are the more exspensive units. Good luck, and let us see when you get it installed!
Tees77150,
I like it! I put mine under the dash and it has a CD and surround sound, but as time has gone one I realized I've only used the CD once or twice for the same reasons you stated. I think I'm going to revert back to an indash retro unit like yours. burt still has the original AM radio that actually works fine, but I want FM.. Congrats on the new sound unit!

Thanks bro, I really like it, and it works well for my needs. I still have the original AM that was in it, and the speaker is still ibn the dash, none of the wires were chopped. So if I ever want to go ALL the way back to original I can, and good luck with yours!
PS: For those who are into the old school way, I remember Audiovox sold an FM converter, that were real popular back in the day. It was a small unit that went under the dash, and only had FM, you ran your antenna into it and tuned your AM and it picked up the FM signal. Funny I don't see anyone running one of those here on FTE. I am sure flEbay would have them. Or was it the antenna ran into yuor AM which got the signal that way? Anyhow, I found one here is the link.
In my 73 Explorer, we had the am radio and the FM convertor. I remember seeing a photo of an orange truck on this site that same set up.
Worked alright as far as I remember. I still have the convertor, but don't remember what brand. Had planned to install it into my 77 when it's done, but may go with the 8 track player instead.

Now that I look at that one I have listed there, that might not be a bad way to go, and still have a factory AM in the dash, and hook up the converter. If my unit I just installed fails, as I had been told they tend to do after a few years, I might just go that route. I remember those were kinda common in trucks around here in the 70's, and early 80's.
