Fuel fitting help needed

Hey guys I'm in the last stages of upgrading my fuel system on my 1997 but now I"m at an all stop. The fitting on the drivers side head ( back ) is this funky 90* joker that can't unscrew without taking the whole truck apart. I read somewhere one guy cut it off the long neck and was able to unscrew it. I used 1/8NPT to #4 JIC on the passenger side head and wanted to do the same on the drivers side. Has anyone sucessfully gotten this sucker out?? If so how?? and will another fitting ( straight vertical ) fit in it's place? Looking for anyone who's updated the fuel lines. Help / Ideas greatly appreciated.

I also read that this is only on the 97's like this and the 96 and earlier was different. Any pics of earlier setup?

Dang thing looks like it's resting on the bolt head. I can't even see it had to put my digital camera on macro and blindly hold it back there.

Update ..... for anyone else working on this issue in the future. Ford uses 1/4" SS lines with a flare and rubber seal with a nut to connect to this fuel fitting. This fitting is a standard 5/16" line ferrell fitting. So get you a steel line 5/16" a brass ferrell and a compression nut from a parts store and it'll screw right in and lock down. I then bent the line at a 45 and used a 5/16" compression to #4 JIC which got me to my braided hose.

Sorry I didn't see this thread till now.
I cut mine off and unscrewed it. My clearance is even less with the different turbo.

What i did (because I am paranoid about metal shavings in the fuel lines and injectors) was to take a super small drill bit that would fit all the way in the fitting to the elbow. Then took some shop paper rag and tear off little pieces and pack it in there. I would twist the paper rag and shove it in there using the bit. I used something behind the bit when pushing so I get push real hard without shoving the bit thru my finger.LOL.
After I got it packed real good I took an angle side cutter pneumatic with a cutoff wheel.
Then contorted my arms back there with a mirror to double check.
Hold on REAL tight and start cutting it off. You will have to cut it real close to the elbow or you will have to cut it twice like I did. Dooh
I may even have pics but I would have to find them.
