Installing Mechanical Gauges

I'm going to be installing some mechanical gauges (Autometer oil pressure and water temp.) and I'm looking for any tips or advice. My truck is a '93 F150, with a straight six.

For the oil pressure, I think I found the sender (right near the oil filter on the side of the block, right?) and I'm planning on unscrewing that then installing it on a tee fitting with the new line to the new gauge. Sound right?

For the water temp, I actually haven't found the sender yet. I checked my Haynes book, and it shows it on the right (passenger) side of the engine near the back, but I can't see it from above (and the melting snow in my driveway is keeping me from crawling underneath at the moment). Will I be able to also mount the existing temp sender on a tee with the new capillary line to the new gauge, and have it get an accurate reading?

For both the oil and water, I assume that brass fittings are okay to use?

Thanks for any help or advice you can provide!

Where you planning on mounting your gauges? I was thinking of installing some in my '90 150 but wasn't sure of a spot that would look good. Was thinking the a-pillar as best looking spot. Luckly mine has a factory tach. What size gauges you going to use?

Also why are you going to tee the oil pressure piece? Just to not have a dead gauge in the dash?

I'm not 100% sure where I'll mount them (I don't have them in hand yet...I expect to receive them on Monday). I'm thinking I'll probably just mount them under the dash, since that's probably the easiest place (not the easiest place to see them while driving, but I'd just like to have an idea of how my engine is doing, so I don't need to be watching them every second). I'm planning on running my lines through that black diamond shaped plug near the steering column.

I'd like to keep the stock gauges working as well rather than have them dead. I wondered if disconecting them (oil pressure especially) would trigger the Check Engine light? Even if not, I'd just assume have them working if possible.

Thanks!

i mounted 2 1/16" (i think) water temp and oil pressure autometer gauges in my '66. the water temp sending unit is on the rear passenger side below the manifolds. i have them hanging under the dash using a piece from autometer. (part# 2237, i think)

disconnecting them will not trigger a CEL.

your manual is correct, the coolant temp guage sender is low on the passenger side of the block.
