So i have been wanting a compressor on my Ex i had installed 2 electric compressors and was not satisfied with the performance so now thire stitting in my grarge and i now am planning on putting a belt driven york compressor on my truck. I have seached the interweb and have found nobody mounting one of these on a v10 Ex so i decided i would be the first and im will post the hole build on here as i go. I have planed to mount it above the alt. because this is the only place i can find the room to mount it ( if anybody ealse has a better place please speek up ) I have included some pics of where i plan on placeing it i will post more pics as the build go's on
Im really interested to see how this goes... I have been wanting one on mine, but dont know how easy it will be on the 7.3. I fabbed one on my s-10 when I was 16 and it worked great. Did you just buy a used AC compressor?
That might turn out pretty painful project. How badly you need the air?
I have small 120V compressor run by inverter in my motorhome. The 2000W inverters are not that expensive, but the size of compressor is limited while used with them.

i dont see it being that bad its just building a bracket and makeing a pully to run the compressor the hardest parts that i can see is makeing a way to keep testion on the belt. i thought about a compressor like your talking about but then thats something ealse to keep in my truck and i have this need not to be limited on what i can do so the belt driven is the best opion for me
Not trying to discourage you, but adding a pulley to serpentine belt and routing it the way that would give good torque can be way harder than making a bracket. Unless you have a space to add new pulleys and make new belt?
Where you will install air tank and what about cut off valve or are you planning to use electric clutch ?

That compressor he is using is actually an AC compressor. They make serp and V-belt clutches for them.

When I did the same set up on my 95 back in the day I used a V-belt pully and added a second belt (rest of accessories ran with one serp belt). The V-belt clutch for that compressor can be had for under 5 bucks and the serp clutch is over 200, back when I was 16 200 was alot of money so I fabbed up a V-belt to work.
I plan on useing the v-belt a/c clutch that ame on the compressor and takeing the alt. pully and welding a v-belt pully onto it I will use a pressur switch to control the clutch it will cut in at 90 psi and cut out at 120 psi I'm going to build the mounting bracket this week some time and then ill worie about how to drive it
I was think of running it the same way so post pics as you get everything fabbed up. I'm still not sure how to make the actual mounting brackets but I'll see what you come up with.
