So this is originally AC compressor? You do realize that those are design to have oil running with the flow?

If the alternator goes out I will have to remove the compressor to replace it not really a big deal in my eyes

They don't have to there is a plug on the side ofb the compressor where you fill the crank case with oil it doesn't need to be pumped in to it threw the lines like a new style a/c compressor

Glad you got the cut in/cut out thing figured out.

I came from the mini truck world before I had the f-250.... Many of you dont seem to understand the concept.... Its a "york" style ac compressor. This is one of only two ac compressors ever made that has its own internal oiling system AND can handle the PSI of compressed air. It is an extremely common thing to do in the mini truck work and the Jeep world

It is not a new thing, but new information you supply... one at the time.
With all the information you provided in 5 or so replies it does make sense. I still would think about driving without the belt and putting it on only when you need the air. It is not going to happen every day, is it?

yeah, but you're talking about welding a pulley onto the existing pulley...

so what... are you welding a new pulley on every time you change your alternator?

Lets be realistic, if you had OBA woudlnt you add things such as an air horn and other accessories? It will be used every day most likely... I know if I did one it would be used every day. Since these compressors are built as ac compressors they and the clutch on them are designed for everyday use.

I don't know how the OP plans on doing it, but when I did mine I bolted the pulley on.... he should be able to get a machine shop to mill one down out of aluminum.... On another note putting a pulley over the other alt pulley will probably screw up the alt over time (bearings and such)

If you bothered to follow the link (or used Google) I provided in post 12 you'd understand better.

The compressor works the same as an AC compressor in that there is very little drag unless the clutch is activated. There is no reason to disconnect and reconnect the belt.

Good point. Wonder if it would be possible and better to run it off the idler pulley?

+1, no room for the York on my 6.0 but if there was I would not have gone with the Oasis system.

i had planed on milling out the pully that i am going to weld to the alt. so i can still get to the bolt to take off the pully and with causing more where on the bearing and such i dont see it being a problem because the main belt pulls down on the alt. pully and the compressor belt will be pulling up so if anything i thing it will take the load off the bearings and balance out. If i do happen to be wrong i will come up with a new plan on how to run it but only time will tell
