MAP -- manifold air pressure sensor
MAF -- m*** air flow sensor
EEC -- electronic engine control (ie "computer")
ECA -- same as EEC, just different acronym. even looked it up the other day and can't remember.

On my '87, the EEC is located behind the kick panel on the passenger side, just in front of the door and under the glove box. The one behind the driver's seat, I think, is the RABS computer.

There is a thread called glossary the has a lot of information on these abreviations as well as a link, this will become a sticky post on the board soon.

Since you are having problems at the column you should check to see if you have power to the EEC relay with the key on, it will only have power for a few seconds and then shut off. My 1989 wiring diagram says that its a R/LG wiring from the switch and a BL/LG going to ground. This wire activates the EEC relay, which activates the fuel pump relay.
