Thought I would try a preemptive strike on the famous clunk question as it is about time for it to be asked again.
Last time I greased the slip joint I pulled the small end of the boot back and used a needle attached to the grease gun in an attempt to force grease into the splines. That lasted about 20K.
Today, I still could not remove the bolts on either end of the drive shaft (do not have an impact wrench). I raised the frame so the tires almost cleared the ground to extend the slip joint.
This time I tried a different approach and packed in as much wheel bearing grease in the boot as possible. I'll let you know the result in about three years because I am Clunk-Klunk free again.
