I have a 1999 F250 Super Duty 2WD Long bed 7.3 with automatic trans. Two piece driveline with carrier bearing.
I am getting a clunking sound when at speed when I let off the gas then give it gas. It's just at that lag time between power and no power. I don't get any clunking when I start out from a stop and I have no vibration. I did grease the rear slip joint behind the boot with the special Ford Blue grease with no change. I don't feel any slop in the ujoints or carrier bearing. I do feel a little slop at The front driveline where the yoke goes into the transmissiion. Should there be slop here? Any thoughts?
Block the rear wheels and Pull your driveshaft off the rear diff and see if you can rotate the yoke (at all) on the diff. Therein lays your answer. If it flops, you found it.
155k... I did not try it with the driveshaft off but I did pry around the rear and did not see any movement. But the front yoke where it goes into the trans does have some slop in it? I did have the rear diff rebuilt with all new bearings including axle bearings at 55k.....
